2025 學年「自然界的秩序:幾何設計原理」短期課程回顧
From 5– 16thMay2025, students took part in a practical geometry workshop entitled“The Order of Nature: Geometrical Design Principles”guided by the tutor Katya Nosyreva at Yuan Centre.
During the workshop, the students explored architectural patterns along the Silk Roads, from 9-15th centuries. They engaged in analysis and construction of individual design elements and ornamental patterns and gained basic understanding of proportion, harmony, symmetry, repetition and the ways these principles can be applied in different media in a contemporary context.
There was an introduction to the curious motif of the Three Hares and how it travelled along the Silk Roads from the Magao Caves in China to parts of Europe and especially south-west of England, and its underlying geometric structure.
Over two weeks, the students also developed a deeper appreciation of the relationship of this discipline to nature, mathematics, and philosophy.
