The Foundation Certificate in the Traditional Arts

 

The aim of the Foundation Certificate in the Traditional Arts is to provide students with: 

• a coherent programme of study at Foundation level in the traditional arts

• an introduction to practice and philosophy in the traditional arts

• an engagement with local cultural heritage

• a Foundation level of understanding of traditional arts and crafts that is transferable to other creative industries

• an introduction to basic design skills in the traditional arts and crafts

 

On successful completion of the Certificate, students will have acquired:

• a portfolio of practical work in traditional arts and crafts which will form the basis of an application to a degree programme or equivalent

• basic skills in select traditional arts and crafts

• experience of initiating, planning and completing small scale projects

• a basic understanding of the practice and philosophy of traditional arts and crafts

• basic transferable practical and design skills

• experience of engaging with their cultural heritage

• presentation and communication skills

• the ability to work independently and as part of a team

• organisational skills

• the ability to keep and work with basic notebooks and logs

• studio etiquette and discipline

 

The Certificate is offered by The Prince's Foundation School of Traditional Arts and meets UK expectations and guidelines for a Foundation-levelqualification.
