2021Academic Year Short Course Review「Design Principles Applied to ceramic Tiles」




From April 12th to April 23rd, 2021, the students of the China Center of the Academy of Traditional Arts of the British Crown Prince Foundation, under the guidance of Li Ran, the instructor of the Academy of Traditional Arts, completed the two-week traditional art course "Application of Design Principles: Ceramic Tile". ” of this unit of study.
This course unit guides students to combine geometry to learn ecological pattern design, color theory, symmetry and mosaic tiling technology. Students start from making ceramic tiles, learn work design, and apply hand-painting techniques, so as to systematically understand the porcelain making process.
The course accomplishes the following objectives:
Apply the mosaic tiling process and symmetrical design of geometric and ecological patterns to create porcelain turn patterns that inherit Chinese and Western traditions;
Learn the complete process of making ceramic tiles by hand: rolling, cutting, drying and firing;
Convert patterns according to different craft exercises;
Glaze with different techniques, such as: dip glaze, brush glaze, and glaze;
Design and make a complete ecological pattern porcelain plate.
